Peekskill is a medium-sized city located in the state of New York. With a population of 25,514 people and five associated neighborhoods, Peekskill is the 69th largest community in New York. Much of the housing stock in Peekskill was built prior to World War II, making it one of the older and more historic cities in the country.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 7.33% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
One downside of living in Peekskill, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 35.64 minutes every day commuting to work. Although the majority of commuting trips in the city are by private automobile, Peekskill is somewhat unusual for a city of its size for having a substantial number of people who use public transportation. For a lot of people, the train helps to get to and from their jobs every morning, which benefits everyone in the Peekskill area by reducing both traffic and air pollution.
