McCall profile

Living in McCall

McCall is a very small city located in the state of Idaho. With a population of 4,066 people and two associated neighborhoods, McCall is the 49th largest community in Idaho.

McCall home prices are not only among the most expensive in Idaho, but McCall real estate also consistently ranks among the most expensive in America.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 21.55% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that McCall is a major vacation destination. Much of the city’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, McCall’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

It is a fairly quiet city because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) McCall has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. McCall has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in McCall than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, McCall may be for you.

One of the benefits of McCall is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 9.48 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.

As is often the case in a small city, McCall doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

McCall is one of the most well-educated cities in the nation. 46.00% of adults in McCall have at least a bachelor's degree. Compare that to the average community in America, which has just 21.84% with a bachelor's degree or higher.

The per capita income in McCall in 2022 was $45,117, which is wealthy relative to Idaho and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $180,468 for a family of four. However, McCall contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call McCall home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of McCall residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Important ancestries of people in McCall include German, Irish, English, Welsh, and Italian.

The most common language spoken in McCall is English. Other important languages spoken here include Italian and Spanish.
