Cambria profile

Living in Cambria

Cambria is a somewhat small coastal town (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of California. With a population of 5,678 people and two associated neighborhoods, Cambria is the 500th largest community in California.

Housing costs in Cambria are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don't compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.

There are many members of the armed forces living in Cambria. You will notice when you visit or live here that some of the people you meet or see around town are employed by the armed services - even if they are not always in uniform.

Of important note, Cambria is also a town of artists. Cambria has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Cambria’s character.

Also of interest is that Cambria has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 23.96% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Cambria has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Cambria has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Cambria than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Cambria may be for you.

One of the nice things about Cambria is that it is nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities.

The citizens of Cambria are among the most well-educated in the nation: 46.37% of adults in Cambria have a bachelor's degree or even advanced degree, whereas the average US city has 21.84% holding at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Cambria in 2022 was $54,483, which is upper middle income relative to California, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $217,932 for a family of four. However, Cambria contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Cambria is a very ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Cambria home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Cambria residents report their race to be White, followed by Asian. Cambria also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 27.42% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Cambria include English, German, Irish, Italian, and European.

The most common language spoken in Cambria is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
